When to take it
Ridge Salt fills the middle stages, taking turns with Switchback Citrus. It is also the stick the heat and altitude rule adds: one when the forecast high is over 75 F, a second over 85 F, and one more when the high point tops 9,000 ft. Those extra sticks go in just before the finish, on the warm afternoon stretch, or after the only stick on a short day.
500 mg of sodium, the most of the four, with 200 mg of potassium and 50 mg of magnesium. It is built for the hours when your shirt is soaked through and salt is drying white on your hat brim. Grapefruit takes the edge off the salt.
On a cool, shaded day you may not need one at all. Water still does most of the work.
