When to take it

Summit Recovery is the last stick in any pack with two or more base sticks. Take it on the final stage or at the car. The heat and altitude sticks go in just before it, so it stays last.

150 mg of magnesium and 300 mg of potassium, the most of the four, with 250 mg of sodium and the B complex: B1, B2, B3, B6 and B12. Magnesium supports normal muscle function, and the B vitamins support normal energy metabolism. Tart cherry.

A pack with one base stick is a short day, so it carries a Switchback Citrus and no Summit Recovery. Any heat or altitude stick goes in after it.

Where it goes in a pack

  1. First

Switchback Citrus, on the first long climb.

  2. Middle stages

Ridge Salt and Switchback Citrus, taking turns, one stick per 6 trail miles.

  3. Heat and altitude

Ridge Salt: one over 75 F, one more over 85 F, one for a high point over 9,000 ft. Just before the finish, or last on a one-stick day.

  4. LastThis stick

Summit Recovery, on the final stage or at the car.

  5. In a bladder

Base Camp, at any stage, one stick to 16 to 20 fl oz of water.
